At Expat Ukraine, we’re huge fans of the country of Georgia. We know, we know, you’re probably thinking: “Isn’t this a blog about Ukraine?!” The truth is that trips to Georgia are very much a part of Ukrainian customs. The relationship between these two nations is centuries old. We’re big fans of Georgia and, of course, dating Georgian women. In today’s recently updated 2025 guide to Georgian girls, we’re going to tell all about what it’s like to meet women in one of the most exotic nations in Eastern Europe!

Popular folklore often discusses how Georgian men would travel to Ukraine to find wives (surprise, surprise). Georgian restaurants are everywhere in Kyiv. It’s the dream of many Ukrainians to visit Georgia, and has become a home of many since the 2022 war began.

While Georgia is known for its food, wine, and natural scenery, today we’re going to talk about one of Georgia’s lesser-known offerings: its ladies.

Ever wondered what women from one of the former Soviet Union’s most mysterious republics are like? Let me give you a hint…they may be the country’s most carefully guarded resource!

Georgian Women: The Hidden Treasure of the Caucuses

While everyone seems to talk about the beauty of Ukrainian women, Georgian women are hardly ever mentioned.

This generally has to do with Georgia being a much smaller, less popular nation. Most people in America don’t even know that Georgia is a country and not just a state!

For better or for worse, Ukraine has been in the headlines for the past 10 years. Whether it is the 2022 Russo-Ukrainian war, Russia expanding its influence, or the amount of funding the US is giving the country now, the world seems to have its eyes on Ukraine.

Georgia? Not so much. Aside from a short-lived war with Russia, Georgia hardly ever crosses the mind of most Westerners. Georgia gained its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, facing numerous socio-political challenges post-independence, including internal conflicts and the struggle for human rights and gender equality.

Country Info: Western Asia & Gender Equality?

Tbilisi.

Georgia is nestled in what is known as the Caucus region of the world, situated between Western Asia and Eastern Europe. This is an area that is at the meeting point of Europe and Central Asia. In total, the country is home to barely 3 million people, most of whom live in the capital city of Tbilisi. If you’re visiting, I suggest you go here. You can visit other cities like Kutaisi, Batumi or Svaneti, but Tbilisi is really where you want to go to meet Georgian women.

Think: the Middle East to the south and Russia to the north. I know, I know, it can be hard to imagine. And, from a foreign relations perspective, there’s not much in terms of protection!

As a result, Georgia itself is very much a mix of different customs. It shares borders with Russia, Armenia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan and feels like a combination of each of them.

Note: If you’re planning to travel to Georgia, I highly suggest reading Georgia Diary: A Chronicle of War and Political Chaos in Post-Soviet Caucasus by Thomas Goltz.

Georgia is like if Ukraine had a baby with Iran, which was then raised in a Russian household but grew up loving America.

You get the idea.

Culturally, people are typically strict Orthodox Christians. Unlike Ukraine, 82% of the population is said to be actively involved in the Orthodox Church.

While tradition may be relatively strong in the country…this won’t necessarily hardly hinder your efforts with Georgian women.

Are Georgian Girls Conservative?

Yes and no.

Oftentimes, it takes spending some serious time on the ground to understand what Georgian women are actually like. Granted, most internet dating gurus have never actually been there, let alone lived there.

Unlike Ukraine, Georgia has something of a desire to be Western. This directly conflicts with the otherwise traditional Christian values that Georgian families tend to hold onto.

On my first trip, I visited in November and stayed for a year or so. During that timeframe, I met countless men adamant about protecting their nation’s values. Yet, it seemed to me that the average citizen cared far more about being European (and having European military protection from Russia) than staying on the same page as their countrymen.

Herein lies Georgia’s great dichotomy. Respect for elders and men is a significant part of Georgian society.

Domestic Violence?

As a quick aside, Georgia does rank low on gender equality indexes that discuss things like domestic violence.

While there is a fair bit of negative press on this issue, I’ll just say that I’ve never seen or heard of any domestic violence taking place in my circles in Georgia. Further, if you really dive into the data, the vast majority of this takes place in small towns outside of the capital. It’s not something to worry about.

Are Georgian Girls Prudish?

There is a stereotype that Georgian girls are prudish, and visiting Georgia will lead you nowhere if you’re looking for a good time. Some will say that it is impossible to hook up and that long-term relationships with Georgian girls are just that…long term.

Georgia, particularly the capital city of Tbilisi, is currently experiencing a sexual revolution of sorts. Traditional roles and values regarding women have been influenced by historical changes in society, including the legacy of the Soviet regime. While Georgia was once the most repressive country in the region for women, globalization is starting to change that.

Since 2009, the United States has proued $3.37 billion into the country as part of the US-Georgian Strategic Partnership Charter. In addition, George Soros spent $42 million to fund “pro-democracy” student groups during the 2003 Rose Revolution.

Groups like this often claim to support “human rights” and promote “inclusion and diversity.”

In reality, it’s a different story. They support feminism and Western standards for gender relations, which often leads to sexual promiscuity. These are all things that directly conflict with Georgia’s traditional values.

Hell, there is even a gigantic gay nightclub in the middle of the city.

In short, Georgia’s youth culture is sadly starting to be a lot less “traditional” than ever before. They’ve lost respect for the country’s religious norms, and the youth are at odds with the rest of the population. They desperately wish to be European.

But what does that mean for you?

What This Means For You

Okay, now I hope I didn’t turn you off with that last assessment. Georgian girls still make very good wives, even when compared with Russians.

Understanding the state of affairs in the country is important if you’re considering what it may be like to live there and date a local.

These larger social trends mean that, for better or for worse, hookup culture is generally on the rise in a place like Georgia. Organizations like UN Women provide substantial support for addressing women’s priorities and needs, especially for marginalized groups, and emphasize the importance of building institutional capacities to combat violence against women and promote gender equality.

Going to Georgia and creating a meaningful relationship with a local woman is possible. That being said, the larger, socially conservative social trends that currently exist there make it such that serious, long-term relationships are the norm where marriage is generally expected to take place. Long-term, serious couples often meet through friends, though using dating applications is becoming all the more popular in 2025.

In short, no “one” single stereotype fits Georgia. Some girls are highly traditional and want long-term relationships, and the more liberal types are down for short-term flings. You don’t have to devote too much time to getting laid in Georgia or getting responses to your DMs that you send to girls in the Caucasus.

The best part is that you can start meeting both of these types today.

Looks and Style

The first and potentially most important question you’re asking yourself is, what do Georgian girls look like?

The simple answer to this is that they are like exotic Ukrainian girls. While they share similar facial features and body types to Slavic women, they have darker hair, darker skin, and a more curvy body type. They’re average height, roughly 5’5″, and have somewhat of a modest, subdued appearance that everyone who visits will learn to love.

Honestly, they’re gorgeous. Walk around any university in Georgia, and you’ll be turning your head constantly. You’ll find active, beautiful girls willing to get on the same page as you that you wouldn’t mind bringing home to your mother.

At the gala.

Dress-wise, Georgian girls are slightly less traditionally feminine than Ukrainian or Russian girls. There is a bit of a bohemian vibe to Tbilisi, where girls tend to have more of a “hipster” style of dress. These girls tend to like art, visit art museums, and hold an opinion on global issues, fashion, and music. They’re far less “plastic” than most Slavic populations.

Like it or not, this is how it is. Personally, I don’t mind it one bit. Many women from other countries consider Georgians to be unfeminine, but I tend to think that a little variety is the spice of life, and this always varies from person to person.

Devote some time to Georgia and its women, and you’ll see why so many men have chosen to travel there, build bustling social lives, and continue to spend their years in the nation.

Mentality of Georgian Girls

For a place that is so far away from the United States, Georgia has much in common with the West when it comes to everyday dealings with others. If you were to compare the average Georgian girl to Russians, you’ll likely find less commonalities with them and more with Westerners.

English levels among young people are sky-high, and I’d estimate that over 90% of the girls you meet in Tbilisi will be able to speak a near-fluent level of English. This means that conversing can be a breeze.

Sarcasm, subtle negs, and making jokes are often appreciated far more in Georgia than in Ukraine.

Many women in Tbilisi aspire to get degrees, enter the workforce, go out and party, and maybe meet a nice guy along the way. Friendships play a crucial role in their lives, with friends actively participating in each other’s lives and celebrations.

For a foreigner, this can be good or bad, depending on what you are searching for.

Culture and Tradition – Georgian Girls

While it may be possible for you to take a trip to Tbilisi and begin meeting plenty of nice Georgian ladies…a relationship is another topic.

Remember this: Georgian girls generally are not allowed to have boyfriends.

You are either married…or you’re not. While some “progressive” forward-thinking families are in the nation, this is generally an understood fact.

One thing you have to understand about Georgia is that it is expected for a girl’s family to limit her behavior generally. It’s interesting to note that this is how much of the globe operated in years past, and Georgia is one of the final holdouts in which these traditions still remain.

Her family works to ensure that she’s not losing her dignity, thereby bringing shame to her family. The majority of Georgian families have a strong belief that women are to remain virgins until marriage. There are ongoing efforts to promote gender equality and combat domestic violence in Georgia, with organizations like UN Women providing resources and advocating for legislative changes.

Whether or not they will, however, is another story entirely.

The Patroni System

While many Georgians will play dumb when asked by foreigners, gender relations are generally still ruled by the “patroni” system. A patroni is a Georgian term for a male guardian; generally, every woman is appointed by her family.

This can be a brother, a cousin, or perhaps her own father. In any case, it is believed that the patrons are responsible for watching over their female relatives.

If she’s caught, it’s her who has to deal with the repercussions, not you. Every few years, there’s always some hilarious story about what happens when a group of English teachers ends up in Georgia, and one gets into hot water for sleeping with a local.

If you’re going to have any type of relationship with a Georgian woman as a foreigner, you can pretty much guarantee she’s going to have to fabricate a few lies about who she’s hanging out with most of the time.

But don’t let that stop you. I’ve never heard of this happening since my first visit in November.

So, What’s The Deal With Georgian Girls?

Georgian girl at the playground.

While you may be dreaming of jumping on a plane and flying into Tbilisi tomorrow (I highly suggest you do when you have the chance), it can sometimes be helpful to think before doing so.

There are plenty of great places to meet women. Georgia is attractive because of its traditional nature, beautiful women, and hospitable customs. Additionally, it’s important to note the national context of women’s political participation, where women represent only 11 percent of parliamentarians in both national and local governments. This highlights ongoing challenges related to gender equality. However, this is more of a passing fact than a legitimate concern.

But keep in mind that most girls are going to be very relationship-minded, embracing the importance of living a meaningful life and prioritizing what truly matters, as opposed to being the types looking for one-night stands.

No matter where you are, you can take steps to start meeting beautiful Georgian girls using online dating applications. International Cupid is a great site to expand your horizons ever so slightly. While their parent company is most popular for its Ukraine Date application, another app we are very fond of, loads of girls use the app from all across the former Soviet Union.

We hope you enjoyed reading our comprehensive guide on Georgian women.

Good luck out there, no matter where you are!
